Every single day you can expect a leftist to make a completely outrageous statement. It calls to mind the comment by the late editor of the Jerusalem Post, David Bar-Illan. Observing leftist views masquerading as journalism, Bar-Illan said that journalists today often write the most mind-blowing nonsense!
They also speak it.
No matter how insane the statement, it’s no longer even shocking. In fact, it’s shocking when it doesn’t happen.
Like the other day, when John “Cougar” Mellencamp made one such outrageous statement. The singer/songwriter from Indiana reveals both his own intense dislike of conservatives, but also, apparently, his love of Marxism:
“I don’t think people fought and gave their lives so that some guy can sit in his bedroom and be mean. I don’t think that’s what freedom of speech is,” he continued. “Freedom of speech is really about assembly — for us to collectively have an idea. We want to get our point of view out so we can assemble and I can appoint you to be the spokesman. That’s freedom of speech — to be able to collectively speak for a sector of people. But somehow it’s turned into ‘I can be an a****** whenever I feel like, say whatever I like, be disrespectful to people and not be courteous.’ It’s not good for our society. Not being courteous is not really freedom of speech . . . ”
Does Mellencamp not realize that his very statement is not courteous? Not that that even applies to the First Amendment. It’s not shocking, it’s very typical of the left to view freedom of speech as only applying to them, but not to anyone that doesn’t fall lock-step into the collective.
We need to realize that Marxist/socialists go into the fields of entertainment, media, politics, and, sadly, even the Church. Their leftist bias is perpetuated through the generations. As Michael Oren reveals in his fascinating book, Power, Faith, and Fantasy, America’s Arabists in the State Department learned from their ancestors in the same circles. Today’s “State” is populated by the descendants of Israel-hating careerists, and a more “collective” mindset you’ll never see.
Pop culture and entertainment see the same bias projected across the country, every day through television, radio, and print. Mellencamp’s Stalinist views, incredibly, are part of the mainstream today, as projected by the media.
“Collectively” is a very telling phrase by Cougar/Cougar-Mellencamp/Mellencamp.
Which brings me to my point, a comparison. As either of my kids will tell you, I’m a geek. A geek in a lot of different ways; one of them being, a sci-fi geek. Some of you may be familiar with “Star Trek, The Next Generation.” In some of the more intense episodes, they face an enemy called The Borg. Essentially they are a cyborg, part-human, part-machine. The Borg find other species, primarily humans it seems, and force them to become one of them. Once they become a Borg, they each perform many different tasks, but they all operate as One. They are mindless creatures that are all controlled by one supreme Borg. They each know what the other is doing and experiences, and they all have the same goal. They are called the Collective. Their goal is to involuntarily “recruit” others to become a part of their Collective and to completely dominate every being in the universe. To think the same, feel the same and have the same ongoing goal. And any who dare to resist are to be destroyed.
I just found it interesting that Mellencamp used the term, “collectively.” That word instantly brought this comparison and image to my mind.
Now for anyone who isn’t a sci-fi geek, this may seem like a strange or even harsh comparison. But I don’t believe that it is. Most liberals, especially the radicals, don’t think for themselves. They are just following liberal talking points. Period. As Rush Limbaugh says, they can’t compete in the arena of ideas. They constantly preach tolerance, yet they have zero tolerance for anyone who doesn’t share their radical views. Their goal is to make everyone believe and see things as they do.
Any true conservative wants a person to have the freedom to be and achieve what that person can in this life. We believe in laws and rules to protect life and said freedom, but not a total, rigid, identical belief in every area of life. This is not so for the liberal. They want total compliance, and they won’t stop until they get it. Ever.
And make no mistake, thinking “collectively” is a component of Darwinian philosophy; the group is preeminent, while the individual is expendable. Notice how starkly that contrasts with the teachings of Jesus. This leftist thinking extends, obviously, to the unborn, who are chillingly disregarded by folks like Mellencamp.
For collective thinkers, the next step in their “evolution” will be terminating the old and the mentally challenged, or anyone else they see as an obstacle to their vision. Too far-fetched, you say? Check back in ten years. Possibly much less, as quick as things are deteriorating with this new administration.
We are in a war. As conservatives and Christians, we are in a war. Lives and souls are being lost each and every day. Ultimately we are up against spiritual forces, but they accomplish their goals through physical means, by using those who choose to remain in the dark.
Those who choose to become part of the Collective.
